Terms of Service.
Effective July 27, 2026.
These terms are a contract between you and Retold LLC, a Delaware limited liability company. By creating an account or using Retold, you agree to them.
1. What Retold is
Retold is a writing coach for college application essays. It interviews you about your life, keeps the stories you share in a private memory bank, suggests essay concepts built from your own material, and coaches you while you write. Retold never writes essay sentences for you. What it produces is guidance: questions, structure, and feedback. The words you submit anywhere are yours to write and yours to answer for.
2. Who may use it
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you may use Retold only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, and by using it you confirm you have that consent. We collect your date of birth solely to enforce the age requirement.
3. Your account
Keep your password private and your account to yourself. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us right away if you believe it has been compromised.
4. Plans, billing, and cancellation
The free Page plan includes one developed essay per monthly cycle. Paid plans (Chapter, Volume, Saga) are monthly subscriptions billed through Stripe. Saga is unlimited within a fair use limit of 40 essays per cycle. Cycles run 30 days from your start date. You can cancel, switch plans, or update your card at any time from Manage billing; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. Prices may change with notice before your next renewal. Taxes are calculated at checkout where required.
5. Your content
The stories, essays, and messages you put into Retold belong to you. You grant us the limited license needed to store and process them so the product can work for you, and nothing more. We do not sell your data, and we do not use your content to advertise to you. You can export everything, and deleting your account permanently deletes your data. See the Privacy Policy for details.
6. AI processing and its limits
Retold is powered by AI models from Anthropic. Your relevant content is sent to Anthropic's API to generate interviews, concepts, and coaching. AI output can be imperfect, incomplete, or wrong. Retold offers no guarantee of admission, scholarship, or any outcome. Use your judgment, and your own voice.
7. Academic integrity
You are responsible for following the rules of every school, scholarship, and testing body you apply to, including their policies on AI assistance and disclosure. Retold is built so the work stays yours; see our integrity promise and the Acceptable Use Policy.
8. Ending service
You may stop using Retold and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, abuse the service, or create risk for other users. Where reasonable we will warn you first.
9. Disclaimers and limits on liability
Retold is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. Our total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, excluding its conflict of law rules.
11. Changes
If we change these terms in a meaningful way, we will post the new version here with a new effective date and, for material changes, notify you by email or in the app before they apply.
